Breeders' Cup Saturday, Del Mar, Saturday, November 1st:

Here are our picks from Team Otis (Outstanding Thoroughbred Investment Syndicate) for the Breeders' Cup Saturday card at Del Mar. As always, we do our best to help you make money on these big days. Tell’em to “back up the Brink’s truck!”

Don't forget, go to teamotis.shop to buy horse racing and poker t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, etc.

The A horses are our top picks that we think are the most likely winners, and an A+ horse should be a single on most horizontal tickets. Any B+ horse is not quite a top pick, but offers good value at a nice price and is treated almost the same as an A horse for wagering purposes. B horses look solid and have a good chance to win as well. C horses are used as savers. Sometimes they are price horses that have a shot to finish in the money, or they may be a low odds horse we are trying to beat.

The suggested wagers are our best opinion on how to bet. For those on a limited budget, the win bets, exactas & daily doubles are the best option.

Saturday, November 1st, 2025, Del Mar

Race 1 (10:05 AM):

This is the start of the early Pick 5 that ends in Race 5. Our A horse is #7 We Can 20/1. The B+ horse is #5 Monterey Bay 10/1. The B horse is #11 Zalamo (FR) 8/1. The C horses are #1 One of These Days (IRE) 8/1, #6 Kansas Cat (ARG) 6/1, and #3 Suchet (FR) 7/2.

This is a wide open, race, with only a couple of horses that would be a shock if they won. Trying to cover with the most likely winners in the Pick 5. Taking a stab with #7 We Can 20/1 off of the long layoff. Hoping he is ready for action in this chaotic race with a steady string of workouts. He earned his best Equibase Speed Figure in his only Del Mar turf start.

Race 2 (10:40 AM):

Our A horse is #7 Tejon Pass 20/1. The B horses are #5 Sir Rocket 8/1 and #1 Ghost of Midnight 5/1. The C horses are #12 Red Flag 6/1, #14 Bostontonian 8/1, and #8 Modus Bestia 3/1.

Looks like a lot of pace horses signed up for this race. Think #7 Tejon Pass 20/1, switching back to the dirt after many turf attempts, will sit just off of the pace and have a little bit of stamina from those turf starts, to keep on going to the finish today. Both, #1 Ghost of Midnight and #5 Sir Rocket should be making a move on the turn and finish well down the stretch.

Race 3 Goldikova Stakes (11:15 AM):

Our A horse is #5 Medoro 6/1. The B horses are #3 Special Wan (IRE) 2/1 and #9 Breath Away (GB) 8/1. The C horses are #10 Lady Claypoole (IRE) 12/1 and #2 Deep Satin 7/2.

The #5 Medoro 6/1 and the favorite #3 Special Wan (IRE) look solid in here. I’m hoping the home court edge proves to be the difference. #9 Breath Away (GB) 8/1 can pop up here at a price.

Race 4 Filly & Mare Sprint (12:00 PM):

Our A horse is #8 Hope Road 4/1. The B horses are #9 Richi (CHI) 5/1 and #6 Sweet Azteca 2/1. The C horses are #3 Vahva 12/1 and #7 Haulin Ice 20/1.

Just trying to beat the second-favorite #4 Tamara 7/2 in this one. Will be hard for her with only one race this year, to have it all together to win a high-class race, especially at the demanding distance of seven furlongs. #8 Hope Road 4/1, #6 Sweet Azteca 2/1 and Tamara, all like the Del Mar oval.

Race 5 Turf Sprint (12:41 PM):

This is the start of the middle Pick 5 that ends in Race 9. Our A horse is #1 Motorious (GB) 7/2. The B+ horses are #11 Bucanero Fuerte (GB) 20/1 and #9 Bear River 20/1. The C horses are #8 AG Bullet 4/1, #10 Shisospicy 6/1, and #3 Arizona Blaze (GB) 5/1.The BC Turf Sprint is a wide open, race most of the time, but this year, if #1 Motorious (GB) 7/2 is able to work out a trip, he should be first or second. This horse is made for the five furlong Del Mar turf sprints, and the two starts this year are the perfect set up into this race. That being said, the luck of getting a clean trip is always needed to win these short turf dashes. Two long shots that should be near the front, out of the gate, are the #11 Bucanero Fuerte (GB) 20/1 and #9 Bear River 20/1. If one of them can get a comfortable lead or settle into a nice rhythm near the front, that could make for a winning effort. The break out of the gate is key. Bucanero Fuerte (GB) tried to go wire to wire at five furlongs at the Curragh in Ireland, which is tough to do since it has an uphill finish. Bear River appears to be rounding into peak form right now.

Race 6 Sprint (1:21 PM):

Our A horses are #13 Mad House 30/1 and #5 Big City Lights 15/1. The B horses are #10 Bentornato 5/2 and #7 Imagination 6/1. The C horse is #1 Kopion 7/2.

Here is another contentious race. I am going with two big long shots in this one. #13 is the improving three-year-old, Mad House at 30/1 morning line odds. Has moved up the class ladder from June to now, taking on his toughest competition by far. In a six furlong, sprint, these types of horses can pull of an upset, especially if he takes the lead right out of the gate, as he has been doing. Has looked fantastic on the track in the mornings at Del Mar. #5 Big City Lights is a California sprinter, who is stepping up in competition as well. This horse hasn’t race since January, but I think this horse can pull off the win with only one start this year (unlike #4 Tamara in Race 4, who has the same Hall of Fame trainer, “Papa” Mandella. The difference being the demands of seven furlongs vs. six furlongs). #10 Bentornato 5/2 ran second in this race last year, and is slightly more consistent than #7 Imagination 6/1. Mandella enters a filly in here against the boys, #1 Kopion 7/2. I’d like her more if this wasn’t her first try at the distance of six furlongs.

Race 7 Distaff (2:01 PM):

Our A horses are #12 Dorth Vader 5/1 and #1 Nitrogen 4/1. The B+ horse is #7 Gin Gin 12/1. The C horse is #8 Seismic Beauty 9/5.

#12 Dorth Vader 5/1 appears to check all the boxes for this race, while #1 Nitrogen 4/1 is a talented three-year-old filly. #7 Gin Gin 12/1 sprung a surprise last time out, beating Nitrogen by a head.

Race 8 Turf (2:41 PM):

This turf race is the start of the late Pick 5 that ends in Race 12. Our A horses are #1 Rebel's Romance (IRE) 5/2 and #10 El Cordobes (IRE) 15/1. The B horse is #8 Minnie Hauk (IRE) 8/5. The C horse is #2 Goliath (GER) 8/1.

#1 Rebel’s Romance (IRE) 5/2 is trying to win this race for a third time, and he appears on track to do so. #10 El Cordobes (IRE) 15/1 is on the improve and can spring the upset in this one. #8 Minnie Hauk (IRE) 8/5 just missed by a head in the prestigious ‘Arc de Triomphe in France last time out. She has looked strong on the track in the mornings, despite that recent effort and the long trip to the US.

Race 9 Classic (3:25 PM):

Our A horses are #7 Sierra Leone 7/2 and #9 Journalism 5/1. The B horse is #5 Forever Young (JPN) 7/2. The C horse is #2 Baeza 10/1.

This is a tough race again this year after the scratch of #6 Sovereignty who looked like a stand out. You can make a case for anyone other than the “rabbit” in the race, #4 Contrary Thinking. #7 Sierra Leone 7/2 is looking for a repeat win in this race from last year. #9 Journalism 5/1 ran second versus Sovereignty a couple of times, and has looked strong in the mornings at Del Mar. I used the “ALL” button on a couple of the Pick 5 tickets that included this race.

Our A horse is #2 Notable Speech (GB) 5/2. The B horse is #11 Rhetorical 5/1. The C horses are #4 The Lion in Winter (IRE) 6/1, #3 Sahlan (IRE) 6/1, and #5 Program Trading (GB) 10/1.

#2 Notable Speech (GB) is primed for a big effort here. Will be very tough to beat with a clean trip.

Race 11 Dirt Mile (4:45 PM):

Our A horses are #6 Full Serrano (ARG) 7/2 and #4 Mystik Dan 6/1. The B horse is #10 White Abarrio 8/1. The C horse is #3 Nysos 8/5.

#6 Full Serrano (ARG) 7/2 won this race last year and is ready to take top honors again, this time around. The main danger appears to be #4 Mystik Dan 6/1, last year’s Kentucky Derby winner. #10 White Abarrio 8/1 could provide an upset. He won the BC Classic a couple of years ago. #3 Nysos 8/5 is likely to be heavily bet. Trying to upset him here.

Race 12 Filly & Mare Turf (5:25 PM):

Our A horses are #5 Gezora (FR) 7/2 and #14 See The Fire (GB) 5/1. The B horse is #9 Cinderella's Dream (GB) 9/2. The C horses are #7 Be Your Best (IRE) 30/1 and #3 Atsila (IRE) 20/1.

The European horses look to have a lock on this race. The only shot I think the US has, is if #7 Be Your Best (IRE) can open up a big lead, and Irad Ortiz Jr. can nurse him home, but that seems unlikely.
